30 Hour Famine

30HF-iconMembers of Jesse Lee Youth will participate in the 30 Hour Famine on February 26 and 27. The purpose of the Famine is to raise awareness and funding to combat world hunger, a problem that claims the lives of 1200 children under the age of 5 every hour worldwide.

Famine participants will stop eating at 8:00 on Friday morning and continue their fast until 2:00 Saturday afternoon. Members of Jesse Lee and St. Stephen's will gather at the Carriage House for a lock-in at 7:00 Friday night. Saturday morning, there will be fund raising opportunities in town.

Here are the requirements to participate:
-A $20 registration fee to cover the T-shirt and the meal.
-At least $40 in sponsor donations.

The deadline to register is Sunday, February 14.

Health Kits for Haiti

We shipped out the first 175 Haiti health kits to the United Methodist Committee on Relief this week. There are another 200 kits ready to go, except they are missing hand towels. We have encouraged members of the congregation to bring a hand towel to worship this Sunday.

We are still collecting the following items:
  • hand towels (15" x 25" up to 17" x 27"). No kitchen towels.
  • washcloths
  • combs (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
  • nail files or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
  • bath-sized bars of soap (3 oz. and up)
  • toothbrushes (single brushes only in original wrapper, no child-size brushes)
  • adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
  • $1.00 to purchase toothpaste

Please bring these items to the church narthex by February 14. If you are interested in donating any of these items in bulk, check out: www.TheCharitySource.com. Have the items shipped directly to the church at 207 Main Street.
